Cabo Pulmo National Marine Park, UNESCO World Heritage Site

Cabo Pulmo National Park is a Marine Park about 60 miles northeast of Los Cabos, Mexico on Baja California Sur. In 2005, it became a UNESCO World Heritage site and was coined by Jacques Cousteau as known as "The World's Aquarium" boasting one of the oldest coral reefs on the West Coast of North America and diverse marine life.

The town of Cabo Pulmo and its waters were settled in the 1800s. As the town was in a rural area, the settlers relied heavily on the local resources of the ocean and its abundance of Mother of Pearl and fishing for over 100 years. In the 1990s, local conservationists realized the damages to the ocean wildlife. In 1995 the area was declared a protected Marine Park by the President of Mexico, Mr. Ernesto Zedillo Ponce de León. Since the conservation began, Cabo Pulmo has observed over 465% growth of biomass in the region. The variety of marine life ranges from apex predators such as Bull Sharks to a variety of fish including Tuna and massive tornadoes of Jacks, Green Sea Turtles, Mobula Rays, and flourishing Coral Reefs making it a top destination for scuba divers, snorkelers, and marine enthusiasts.

We have returned to Cabo Pulmo for the past three years for the top-notch scuba diving. We hope you'll enjoy the video below from our trip in December 2022.
